Whenever I have a tan, I always feel just a little happier. Seeing as I live in the city of Vancouver and probably won’t see the sun for another several months, self tanning will have to do ;). Let’s just get this out of the way…Tanning beds are not a f*cking option. The risk of getting skin cancer isn’t worth a bronzed bod. If you’re thinking about using tanning beds, watch this video and I guarantee you’ll change your mind and bawl your eyes out.
My gosh. I can’t even count the times I’ve turned into to a rather patchy, streaky, orange-ish version of myself. Here are my tips and the tricks I’ve learned on how to apply self tanner and get the perfect glow at home. St. Tropez is my favorite line of self tanning products and I’ve been using their products forever! I recently picked up this set and I’ll be doing a full review later this week!
EXFOLIATE – Ain’t nobody got time for patchy, dead skin that will ruin the glow! This exfoliating mitt is way more sanitary than a loofa…..Don’t even get me started on loofas.
SHAVE – If going hairless is your thing, make sure you shave at least one day before or else the product will go into the open hair follicles and you’ll see dark little dots all over. Not cute.
Make sure your skin is completely free of lotion, perfume, and especially deodorant (it will make your underarms turn green) for the best application of your tan.
GLOVES – There was once a time when young Lauren made a very poor choice and decided to apply tanning mousse without any gloves or a mitt.My hands were orange for like two weeks.
MITT – Using a mitt makes applying the mousse a lot easier… But if you’re a serious tanner, the Body Beautyblender is my weapon of choice.
I always self-tan right before I go to bed so the product can set in overnight. Also, you don’t want to wash your hands or get any water splashes on your body or else your tan will be splotchy! This is one of the reasons I prefer to self tan at home rather than go for a spray tan at a salon. There is nothing worse than having the rain sabotage a perfect tan en route to the car.
Obvi we want to stay golden for as long as we can, so I like to use a daily/gradual tan body lotion but you can use any moisturizer. We just don’t want our skin getting dry! Using a shower gel designed to maintain a tan is a good call too, I really like this one by
May your application be flawless and your skin be glowy AF ;)! If you have any tanning tips, leave them below so I can check them out!
