In an issue of Cosmo several years ago, Rihanna said that wearing a bold lip always makes you look more glammed up even if you have very minimal makeup on. That is a piece of beauty advice that has always stuck with me. Bright lipstick can be a bit intimidating, but it’s easier to pull of than you think.
PICKING THE RIGHT BRIGHT
When it comes to choosing a lipstick color, always keep in mind your skin’s undertone. If you have a warm undertone, you want to choose a shade that also has a warm undertone, think peachy-corals or warm reds. The same rule applies for cool undertones, go for fuschia or reds that have a blue undertone, not orange.
PRIME YOUR POUT
When bold lipstick starts to feather, it isn’t quite as forgiving as a nude color is. My go-to lip primer makes any lip formula go on so much smoother, last longer, and keeps it from smudging.
EVEN SKIN TONE
Having a flawless base is essential, or else I find the bold hue can accentuate blotchy, uneven patches of skin. Below are some of my go-to complexion products that make the skin look perfect, but never feel heavy or look cakey!
KEEP IT SIMPLE
Because the bright lip is the focus, the eyes should be soft and simple. Just take a fluffy blending brush (Sigma E40 blends like a freaking dream) with a neutral matte to define the crease and then add some shimmer on the lid using your finger. Finish with a couple coats of mascara and you’re good to go.
CONFIDENCE IS KEY
If you aren’t feeling yourself and are worried about what every one else thinks, it really shows through. Take the time to pick a shade that makes you feel empowered and badass. A bold lip definitely gets attention and stands out, so people may stare you down because you look hot AF ;). It’s all about the state of mind, beautiful ladies!
Another thing I love about wearing bold lipstick is that I can keep my outfit basic AF and still look put together. The bright lip adds a pop of color and just makes things way more fun.
